A turf and timber Roman fort near Coventry

It's A.D. 60; the Iceni of East Anglia led by the legendary Boudica have rebelled against Roman rule, and have just been defeated in a terrible battle fought somewhere in the Midlands. As a result the Romans are building a series of fortifications across the Midlands including the Lunt...

Come and explore this partially-reconstructed timber fort . Stand on the ramparts, explore the exhibition in the granary and imagine yourself training horses in the gyrus - a feature not found anywhere else in the Roman Empire.

Visiting the Lunt

Please note we do not open for Bank Holidays. The fort is open for pre-booked groups during term times.

The fort is ONLY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC during Coventry school holidays.

For more information about visiting us, opening hours and how to get here, please go to our Visiting page.

Unfortunately, the ramparts are currently inaccessible due to health and safety reasons. However, visitors are still able to explore the rest of the fort, including our engaging activities programme, archaeological artefacts and access to other areas of the gyrus. We are sorry for any inconvenience this might cause during your visit. If you would like to know more about how to support the Lunt in raising funds to repair the rampart and gates to the full glory, get in touch with info@culturecoventry.com

The Fort is open 10:00 - 15:30, Monday to Friday

Important Information for Coaches

There is coach parking available on the Fort site. Please advise your coach driver to approach the Fort from the direction of Rowley Road (East of the Fort) and park in the Fort car park. If they approach from the other direction (from Mill Hill to the West) they will be unable to turn into the car park. Coaches must not be parked in the surrounding roads at any time.
